Hello,
today I will write about how I got my CO2 cylinder and how I refill it with CO2.
First off, lets begin with the needs of an aquarium. I have a 2 Kg CO2 cylinder and it takes 6 months to empty on my 40L planted tank. You can do the analogy from here. A bigger aquarium will empty the cylinder in less time and a bigger cylinder will take longer to empty. So as long as you don't have a 300L aquarium, a CO2 cylinder between 2 Kg and 5 Kg will do just fine! You can even work with a 500g cylinder without any problems, you will just visit approximately the factory once a month to fill it up.
Where to buy a CO2 cylinder from? Where can I refill?

Linde will offer a quality, professional, CO2 cylinder. However, this will come at a cost. It is expensive and my 2 Kg one cost me €180. You can sometimes find used ones that are on sale but you will definitely find a variety of sizes, especially the big ones.
You can also refill your tank really cheap. It costs me around €4 for my 2 Kg one however it takes a day so your plants will stay without CO2 for a day and probably it would be better if the lights stayed off during that time as well. A good thing about this provider, is that it has shops all around Cyprus. This means you can take your cylinder to any of their shops, they will send it to be filled up at the Nicosia factory and then send it back again. Unfortunately this takes time but if you have a backup bottle then you will have no problems at all!
2. Geomast Antifire Co Ltd

Geomast has fire extinguishers. These have been widely used in the UK as CO2 cylinders as they are cheaply priced. a 4 Kg cylinder will cost around €45. There are many sizes to choose from and are safe to use. They come in the usual red color but I have seen some that are silver coated and look fantastic. You just need to inform them that you will be using the cylinder for CO2 for your aquarium and they will modify it for you so that your regulator will fit. It might come at a small cost but usually they do it for free. Once the cylinder is full of CO2 and the regulator is fitted on then just press on the lever of the extinguisher and zip-tight it to keep it "ON".
They also provide refill services but they are a bit costlier than Linde. Their refill costs €14 but if you take it to their offices early morning then you can have it by noon. This means your plants will not miss their CO2 which for me it is very important.

This is a German shop where you can order your 500g CO2 cylinder. It costs around €50 and it is shipped to Cyprus empty. It is not the cheapest cylinder around but if you have a nano aquarium then this cylinder will suit you perfectly. It is an alternative to the above and its a cylinder size that the others don't sell.
In general, if you are buying a CO2 cylinder, you need to be sure about 2 things:
1. Is it safe?
2. Is it a DIN 477 connector so it can fit the regulator on?
If these two points are covered then you can purchase the cylinder without a problem.
